About Rachamona
There are so many downtrodden and heartbroken people among us, and it is easy to think that no one is listening to our prayers. But it is specifically those individuals to whom the Ribbono Shel Olam listens most.
Rav Shimon Schwab writes that the brokenhearted can even create a mizbei’ach, an altar, from all their sorrow: “Mizbei’ach evneh be’shivron libi — I will build an altar with my broken heart.” Thus, this song is a message of hope to the downtrodden and the despondent: Always know that Hashem is on your side. He cherishes your cries, and they will never go unanswered. This piyut makes it very clear that the One who answers to the poor and brokenhearted is “Rachmana,” the Aibeshter’s name that represents Midas Harachamim.
